Sore Losers

New Blood

The woman sat in the middle of a mass of machinery, her eyes narrowed as she watched the screens around her. A knock from the door stirred her from her observations.

"What is it Miss Pauling?!" She barked as the young woman slipped into the darkly lit office.
"Um... the new recruit is here Administrator"
"I know this already! Bring him to me" was the reply from behind the monitors.
"Yes Administrator"

The door closed behind Miss Pauling quietly as the woman behind the screens continued to watch the red and blue teams fighting for each others intelligence. She cracked a small thin smile and her eyes narrowed, as she wondered how Blue would cope with two hawk-eyed snipers out there on red. She laughed while plucking the cigarette from her mouth.
Oh yes the extra Spy on blue and the new Sniper on Red should spice things up between the rival teams. Ten was a nice even number. Crossing her legs she poked her smoke back between her lips and lent back in her luxurious arm chair, awaiting her newest pet to be shown in.

"Um... Do not look her in the eye, do not interrupt her when she is... is talking, be polite and call her Administrator when addressing her. do not joke, do not... slouch."

The woman smacked him lightly in the lower back with her clipboard to try to slap him into walking straighter. The young man chuckled but kept on slouching.

"She is going to be displeased... But you're handpicked by her so she will have to deal with your appearance" Muttered Miss Pauling
"Pardon me asking Miss, but what duss my appearance hav' ta do with me aim?" The young recruit stated giving her a side on glace.

He towered over her, all arms and legs tall and lean, like many snipers before him.
This one however was younger than normal, he was darker in skin tone and had long black wavy hair when most others had a European pale tone to their sun blanched skin, while sporting short brown or blonde hair.

"Um... I guess nothing... forget it... I understand you are from the island just off Australia, I can not recall its title" she stated.
"aye Tassie... er I be meaning Tasmania Miss"
"You do not look like any Australian I have ever met before Sniper."
"That's coz I'm 'arf Aboriginal an all Miss" He stated tilting his hat down to cover his blue eyes one of the more obvious traits of his mixed heritage.  The woman stared at him.
"Really an Australian savage?" she asked wide eyed and watching him more intensely now.
He frowned.
"No savage miss. A-ab-ridge-an-nal. I'm a half-cast so I didn't grow up on the land like I shoulda. Was in an orphanage till I was old enough to 'ave the mind ta leave."
"Um… sorry I didn't mean to offend." She stated but the damage was done, the nerve struck.

He did not talk again until they reached the black doors leading into the Administrator's room.

"So the Boss lady... she a tough cookie then?" he stated, suddenly nervous.
"Um..."
"Miss Pauling! Where is my new Sniper!"
Roared the voice of the hellcat from behind the doors. The two outside simultaneously jumping as her voice boomed from within.
The sniper gulped, so did the woman beside him.

"I think that answers me question" he muttered as Miss Pauling pushed the door open slightly and slipped in, motioning for him to follow.
"Here he is, Administrator" she stated.
"Come forward Sniper!" The howl was like a kick in the backside as the new Sniper took the long walk between the doors to the woman's desk within.
"Ma'am" He touched his hat and looked up at the grey eyes of his new employer which hovered just above the monitors, eyebrows raised as she observed him from behind the machinery that obscured her from his view.

"Welcome Mr Cameron John Brunby, I hope that you traveled well. I understand that the long journey from the southern continent can be taxing on those un-used to be… caged.
He shifted uneasily, the ride had been one of the must uncomfortable and unnerving in his life.
"Bloody down right terrible ma'am" he stated.

Her chuckle echoed throughout the room, the woman slipped out from behind her monitors and wondered casually around to lean on them as she puffed at her cigarette.

"Now down to business Mr Brunby. As you are well aware you have joined RED as Sniper. I welcome you to the Game. But before I send you off to join the others, there are my rules which you would not have been so privileged to see written down anywhere."

"Rules ma'am? I thought this was a kill or be killed battle of marksmanship miss, where anything goes."
If looks could kill the glare he received from interrupting would have put him in his grave then and there.

"A battle of marksmanship, kill or be killed… yes. Anything goes, No. I have only three rules that are not to be broken and if so will be punishable by court marshal or execution. There will be no fraternizing with the enemy, That is my number one rule." She started to count them off as she moved away from her computers,
"Number two, do not surrender to any of the opposing team-members. It will not be tolerated."
She had walked around the back of Cameron now and barked the last word into his right ear, which made the Australian wince.

"Three, do not turn tail to run and hide somewhere, this includes desertion. No one who has tried to leave before their contract ended has lived to tell the tail."
She hissed as she came to stop in front of him, her fingernail jabbing the last words into the middle of his chest.

"Those are the only things I do not allow here do I make myself clear Sniper."
"M-ma'am" Cameron answered through a clenched jaw. Blue eyes narrowed at the woman from beneath his hat brim.

"understood completely ma'am" he added as she turned her back to him and wondered back to her chair putting a hand on the back of it as she turned to look between Miss Pauling and her newest recruit.

"Then I am finished with the both of you. Dismissed." She plopped herself into her lush chair to watch the monitors once again chuckling to herself, having noticed that the new sniper's back was somewhat straighter then when he had swaggered into her office to begin with.

The Administrator smiled, contemplating the forthcoming entertainment that the new Sniper and the young Spy would add to the old mix of veterans within teams Red and Blue, this young man from the lowest half of the southern continent was renowned for his hostility towards his enemies a sharp shooter with an eye for a murdering shot that would leave his prey fatally wounded long enough to allow them to wallow in their approaching doom. Yes this sniper and the new spy with the same audacity for killing his prey with slow agonizing strokes of his butterfly knife would defiantly add excitement, suspense and a bit of drama to her dreary monitor viewing life.
